President's Message
FALAYA FLING -- GREAT SUCCESS!
What a great time
everyone had at the Fling and what a success it was! What a great WIN
for SSA! Thanks again to all of you who helped in any way. Your presence
makes a huge difference.
Kudos and applause to
the general chairs, Kim Hahn and Stacey Rase for generously giving of
their time and untiring efforts to make this a successful event. They,
along with the committee chairs and volunteers, have accomplished this
great benefit for our school. We are also most grateful to Elaine
Simmons and the staff of the Advancement Office as well as to our
Maintenance Staff for their many hours of hard work and physical labor
to get the job done.
A very, very special
THANKS to all the "unsung heroes" who were there long hours on Friday,
Saturday, and especially Sunday to set up, decorate, and CLEAN UP. If
you've never been there you cannot imagine what all goes into doing this
job.
We are also so blessed
to have so many parents/friends who make this event such a success! Our
volunteers are the heart and soul of our successful events. Especially
noted are quite a number of our alumnae parents whose help is invaluable
and whose presence at the Fling in deeply enjoyed and appreciated. As
someone recently said to me, "Once a Dove, always a Dove"!
I would also like to
give a deep sense of gratitude and recognition to all our donors,
without whom this event would not be successful. Item donors as well as
restaurant donors are a blessing to us, many continuing their generosity
year after year. Our student artists also deserve great recognition.
This is a wonderful opportunity for them to display their incredible
creativity. What a great job!
A
tremendous amount of work goes into the successful completion of this
event. It could not be successful without the involvement of so many.
This is a true example of carrying out one of the four Pillars,
"Community." As SSA's major fund raiser, Falaya Fling makes it possible
for us to do great things for the young women we serve. God
bless you all for your generosity and commitment to assisting us in
"Keeping the Promise" to our students to fulfill the legacy of the
Benedictine Sisters through the mission of SSA. We are all in this together!!
PAVILION AND GROTTO
LANDSCAPING COMPLETED - As you can see the project is almost completed. I
hope you like it as much as I do. I think the landscaping gives renewed
focus to the grotto and at the same time emphasizes our four pillars
albeit in smaller stones, but they are beautiful and impressive. The
grotto is one of the few things we have remaining on campus from the
early days of our school, built in 1903. Praise God!
HOLY WEEK AND EASTER -
In the next few weeks the liturgy of the Church will commemorate the
most significant times of Christ's life as well as His gifts to us: the
washing of the feet, the institution of the Eucharist, the suffering,
death, and resurrection of Jesus. The core of our faith and what it
means to be a Catholic Christian are entwined in these events. Christ
taught us what it means to serve others as he washed the feet of the
apostles and poured out his blood for each of us on Calvary. In his
suffering he forgave his enemies. Then he gave us His Body and Blood as
He instituted the Eucharist with the promise to be with us always, as He
instructed the apostles to "Do this in remembrance of me." His holy
sacrifice continues even down to our present time through each
celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. It is because he
conquered death through the Resurrection on that first Easter morn that
our faith is not in vain. Thus Jesus filled us with his message of
prayer, service, and community. It is when we reach out to others-those
loved ones who are closest to us, the people we associate with each
day-as well as to the poor, the oppressed, and the marginalized, that we
continue to do what Jesus did: Serve in Love.
If we live what Christ
has taught us through the gospel and through the Church we will be
prepared to face the difficulties we encounter in our lifetime. Carrying
our crosses in the little things paves the way for us to carry our
crosses in the bigger challenges of life. We are all on the "Journey of
Life." Hopefully we are all intent on living our lives as we would want
our eulogies to be written. We are truly an Easter people. Alleluia!
May Jesus' Passion,
Death, and Resurrection call us to greater love and conversion. I hope
everyone participates in the Holy Week services and Easter services of
your Church. May God's blessings fill each of you with Peace and Joy
during the Easter season.

Pep Rally for God
St. Scholastica Academy hosted a Pep Rally for God coordinated by students and Campus Minister Colin MacIver. The theme was "How Great is our God." The event consisted of praise and worship through music, student testimonies, talks, drama, Adoration and a Eucharistic procession. Brian Butler, co-founder
and president of Dumb Ox Productions, Inc., a non-profit organization
dedicated to chastity and vocation formation for teens and young adults,
spoke on how great God is in our everyday lives and Fr. Jeffrey Jambon
presided over Adoration and the Eucharistic procession. Seniors Grace
Nader, Courtney Farnet and religion teacher Lynne Fritscher '07 gave
testimonials about how God has made an impact on their lives. The
worship band from St. Timothy's Church led the music and directed the
experience, encouraging students and faculty to get involved in the
service.

St. Joseph Altar
In
preparation for SSA's first St. Joseph's Altar, alumnae, students and
parents gathered at the school cafeteria in February to help bake
cookies for the Altar. On
March 18, there was a 9:30 a.m. Mass in Our Mother of Perpetual Help
Chapel on SSA's campus. After Mass the Altar was blessed and open for
viewing and for serving food from 10:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. in the
cafeteria. The admission for the meal served on the 18th was by
donation. The proceeds went to the scholarship funds for Angelle Ulfers
'12 and Catherine Gensler '14 (SSA, Ben Bragg (SPS), Gabby Chiasson and
Samantha Vinturella (OLL).
Students Katherine Riecke and Simone Smith help make cookies for the St. Joseph's Altar. |
